Call to Artists

First and foremost, we hope you are taking care of your health and the health and safety of your family, friends and community. As you all know, we are in a time when making plans for the next few months is quite challenging. As an all-volunteer, community-supported organization, the Meredith Sculpture Walk committee will be doing everything we can to put on another great show for this, our seventh year. That said, we are going to making a few adjustments to our timeline to give you, our artists, more time to apply and allow our team the ability to adjust it’s meetings and planning schedules. Other adjustments may be required as time passes.

Benefits of having your work in the Meredith Sculpture Walk

The award winning Meredith Sculpture Walk is the perfect place for your next sculpture installation! Featuring 32 sculptures annually our installations are a draw for individals far and wide. Applications are open now!

What makes the MSW different from other sculpture installations?

  • For purchase information regarding any sculpture in this exhibition, potential buyers will contact the artist directly. The Greater Meredith Program does not act as facilitator for any purchase nor does it collect a fee. Rather, we celebrate with the artist a sale or generation of a commission to produce a new and unique sculpture.

  • The Meredith Sculpture Walk places no restrictions on sculpture type, materials, or point of origin as long as the sculpture is an original piece suitable for year-round installation in a public space.

  • Our well-rounded volunteer ground team assists sculptors in the installation process. The team meets with the artist and can provide insight into the optimal positioning of the piece as well as supplying an abundance of eager manual labor for getting the sculpture into position.

  • Meredith, New Hampshire has been voted as one of the ten best Northeastern small towns by USA Today. As one of the premier vacation destinations in New England our sculptures are seen by people from all over the world.

  • While many similar sculpture walks are contained within a single park or part of town the Meredith Sculpture Walk is spread all throughout town! Visitors to the Town Docks, historic Mill Falls Marketplace, our beaufitul parks, and the diverse business of Main Street see our installed pieces without even consciouslly partaking in the experience of the Sculpture Walk!

History

In 2011, The Design Committee of the Greater Meredith Program, successfully completed a project that was named “Courtyard on Main”. This pocket park connected Main Street to The Mill Falls Marketplace with a landscaping plan that included the installation of two pieces of sculpture from local artists.

Born out of this keystone project was a concept for The Meredith Sculpture Walk which would extend the installation of additional sculpture along Main Street, in the Mill Falls Marketplace, and in the three waterside parks that are along Lake Winnipesaukee, creating an annual public art display for the enjoyment of residents and the thousands of visitors to Meredith each year.

In 2012, a working committee of the Greater Meredith Program’s volunteers began the work of planning the First Annual Meredith Sculpture Walk. Committee Chairman, Bev Lapham, made formal presentations to town officials, civic groups, and businesses within town. The concept was met with great enthusiasm and positivity. The committee began the work to select potential site locations, obtain sponsorships, address legal and insurance issues, promotion, jurying, installation support and the creation of a list of potential artists/sculptors and so many more details.

The first call to artists went out in January 2014 to artists and sculptors throughout the Northeastern United States. The response was very gratifying with the receipt of over 60 applications representing over 75 pieces of sculpture! This launched our First Annual Meredith Sculpture Walk! Twenty-Five sculptures were independently juried through with all installations completed by June 2014. With this work behind us, we were able to hold our First Grand Opening Gala Celebration in July of that year.

Overwhelming positive responses to The Meredith Sculpture Walk and continued interest have supported the decision to issue a call to artists annually. Year 2020 will be our Seventh Annual display with total sites increased to 32 as participation, reputation, and popularity has grown.

Thank you to all our wonderful sculptors who have participated in past exhibits, current exhibit, and those who will apply for this year’s exhibit. We thoroughly enjoy working with each of you and the continuation to provide a beautiful location to display your wonderful pieces of art into the future.
